Newsweek and Poll Numbers

Karlo is talking about Bush's opinion poll numbers.

I find it ironic that, on the same Newsweek issue that discusses the Bush poll numbers, there is a picture of Harry Truman on the cover with the words "Wanted: A New Truman".

Guess who had the lowest poll numbers in the history of the Presidency?

Harry Truman once polled at 22%.

Is this the way we measure Presidents now? By poll numbers. Of course Clinton would have never had poll numbers this low. If they ever got too low, Bubba would change course.

You know if you would have asked me if I approved of the President's performance, I would have probably answered that I disapprove. That doesn't mean that I would vote for a Democrat though. I can't think of any time during the last six and a half years that I have approved of the President, but hell would freeze over before I would vote for a Democrat. There are probably a lot more people who make up that "disapprove number" that feel the same way that I do. But that truth doesn't fit into the media's agenda though, does it?

Just in case you still care about poll numbers. The Real Clear Politics average approval rating for Bush is 34.2%. The RCP average approval rating for Congress is 38%.
